Brookside - remember Brookside - has been off our screens for the best part of two decades now.

The legendary and iconic soap, based in the North West of England, was bumped from our TV screens some 18 years ago.

But its legacy lives on and while it may not be on our screens anymore, we can always remember its iconic scenes and characters from yesteryear.

These days, the soap world is not what it used to be. Sure, we have Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders - as well as Hollyoaks - but there was something so groundbreaking about Brookside, wasn't there?

It really did entertain and thrill us during its run on our TV screens in the 1990s - and later.

But what happened to the stars of the show we came to love and know?

The Liverpool Echo, our sister title based on Merseyside, has taken a look for us...
